The cathedral, began life as a Franciscan friary, fortress-like complex. The side portal of the church has a fine colonial-Plateresque façade with, above the gable, the symbols of a crown, cross, skull and bones framed by an alfiz.

The Chapel of the Third Order, at the rear of the monastery building, has a very typical Mexican Baroque façade, embellished with a small figure representing Hernán Cortés. Like the chapel's lovely carved wooden altar (1735), the façade shows strong Indian influence.
The gilded 18th century altarpiece, restored and in beautiful condition, it is one of the few colonial baroque retablos to survive both the neoclassical vogue that swept through many churches in the region during the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Esta última foto está espectacular por el cielo, le da un toque de misterio difernte. Lástima de los coches aparcados en la puerta, me hacen regresar del viaje al pasado que realizaba mientras veía el resto de detalles.

Hola Fenix, que bueno que sirvan estas imagenes para invitar a gente interesada en conocer nuestro pais, la ciudad en si tiene mucho que ofrecer, pero ademas en sus alrededores ( no mas de 3 horas por carretera como maximo ) hay infinidad de sitios interesantes que conocer, para citar solo unos pocos: Hacia el oriente, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Cholula, Huejotzingo. Al Norte, Teotihuacan, Acolman, Pachuca, Molango. Al Oeste, Toluca, Tenango, Calixtlahuaca, El Oro. Al Sur Cuernavaca, Tepoztlan, Xochicalco, Taxco, Cacahuamilpa, etc. Asi que hay que venir con tiempo y energia. Muchas gracias por tu visita y siempre seras bienvenida. Saludos.
