The Library Rogerio Casas -
Alatriste H., houses the collection of books gathered by Franz Mayer, who
besides collecting pieces of art, highlighted as bibliophile.
The library specializes in
decorative arts and has one of the most important collections in America of The
Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote.
The relevance of this
collection lies, inter alia, in antiquity, beauty and rarity, its editions,
true works of art. In these books is remarkable addition to the content,
binding, typography, illustrations and illuminated.
“Books are the carriers of
civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science
crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. Without books, the
development of civilization would have been impossible. They are engines of
change (as the poet said), windows on the world and lighthouses erected in the
sea of time. They are companions, teachers, magicians and bankers of the
treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print.
