The Magic of the Cities.
Zen promotes the rediscovery of the obvious, which is so often lost in its familiarity and simplicity. It sees the miraculous in the common and magic in our everyday surroundings. When we are not rushed, and our minds are unclouded by conceptualizations, a veil will sometimes drop, introducing the viewer to a world unseen since childhood. ~ John Greer

The Man and Its Squirrel, a Sunday In The Park
“Animals
never worry about Heaven or Hell. Neither do I. maybe that's why we get along”
― Charles Bukowski, The Last Night of the Earth Poems

“The
free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it - basically because you feel
good, very good, when you are near or with them.”
― Charles Bukowski, Tales of Ordinary Madness

“That's
the problem with drinking, I thought, as I poured myself a drink. If something
bad happens you drink in an attempt to forget; if something good happens you drink
in order to celebrate; and if nothing happens you drink to make something
happen.”

“The
problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while
the stupid ones are full of confidence.”
“An
intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way.
An
artist says a hard thing in a simple way.”
“there
are worse things
than being alone
but it often takes
decades to realize this
and most often when you do
it's too late
and there's nothing worse
than too late”

“We're
all going to die, all of us, what a circus!
That
alone should make us love each other but it doesn't.
We
are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by
nothing.”

Situations
“Style is the answer
to everything.
A fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous thing
To do a dull thing with style is preferable to doing a dangerous thing without it
To do a dangerous thing with style is what I call art
Bullfighting can be an art
Boxing can be an art
Loving can be an art
Opening a can of sardines can be an art
Not many have style
Not many can keep style
I have seen dogs with more style than men,
although not many dogs have style.
Cats have it with abundance.
When Hemingway put his brains to the wall with a shotgun,
that was style.
Or sometimes people give you style
Joan of Arc had style
John the Baptist
Jesus
Socrates
Caesar
GarcÃa Lorca.
I have met men in jail with style.
I have met more men in jail with style than men out of jail.
Style is the difference, a way of doing, a way of being done.
Six herons standing quietly in a pool of water,
or you, naked, walking out of the bathroom without seeing me.”

Roman Scenes III
“For
those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those
of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain
stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable.
Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to
unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are
here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds
and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
