The Magic of the Cities.

Zen promotes the rediscovery of the obvious, which is so often lost in its familiarity and simplicity. It sees the miraculous in the common and magic in our everyday surroundings. When we are not rushed, and our minds are unclouded by conceptualizations, a veil will sometimes drop, introducing the viewer to a world unseen since childhood. ~ John Greer

Saturday Celebration

Talks and Writings of G. I. Gurdjieff

THE EVOLUTION OF MAN CAN BE TAKEN AS THE DEVELOPMENT IN HIM of those powers and possibilities which never develop by themselves, that is, mechanically. Only this kind of development, only this kind of growth, marks the real evolution of man. There is, and there can be, no other kind of evolution whatever.…
In speaking of evolution it is necessary to understand from the outset that no mechanical evolution is possible. The evolution of man is the evolution of his consciousness. And ‘consciousness’ cannot evolve unconsciously. The evolution of man is the evolution of his will, and ‘will’ cannot evolve involuntarily. The evolution of man is the evolution of his power of doing, and ‘doing’ cannot be the result of things which ‘happen.’

Evening Clouds

(iPhone Lens+Snapseed App)

At the entrance, my bare feet on the dirt floor, Here, gusts of heat; at my back, white clouds. I stare and stare. It seems I was called for this: To glorify things just because they are.
Czeslaw Milosz

The Temple of the Sacred Family, one of the major symbols of the Roma district, started being built in 1910 by the architect Manuel Gorozpe and the engineer Miguel Rebolledo, and was sponsored by the Jesuit congregation. After a period of inactivity, the Parrish was inaugurated on November 19 1925, date in which its tower and clock were given their blessing.

This temple reflects several styles fashionable in the early 20th Century, among which we can find elements of the neo-Romanesque, neo-Gothic and eclectic styles that manage to come together harmoniously in this place.

One of the most outstanding aspects of this temple are its beautiful stained glass windows, which were made by the Italian company Talleri, and in which we can observe representations of different Bible passages and the mysteries of the Christian faith. [mexicocity-guide.com]

A Town Within a City

Tlalpan is one of the sixteen administrative boroughs of the Federal District of Mexico City. It is the largest borough, with over eighty percent under conservation as forest and other ecologically sensitive area. The rest, almost all of it on the northern edge, has been urban since the mid 20th century. When it was created in 1928, it was named after the most important settlement of the area, Tlalpan, which is referred to as “Tlalpan center” to distinguish it from the borough. This center, despite being in the urbanized zone, still retains much of its provincial atmosphere with colonial era mansions and cobblestone streets. Much of the borough’s importance stems from its forested conservation areas, as it functions to provide oxygen to the Valley of Mexico and serves for aquifer recharge. Seventy percent of Mexico City’s water comes from wells in this borough.
